Sally Gunnell Biography

Sally Gunnell rose to international fame as a British track-and-field athlete during the 1990s after retiring from competition. Born on July 29, 1966, in Chigwell, Essex, she specialized in the 400 meters hurdles. Between 1992 and 1994 Sally Gunnell became the first woman to win Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth gold medals in the same event.

The 1992 Barcelona Olympics marked the peak of her athletic career when she won the gold medal in the 400m hurdles. She achieved a world record of 52.74 seconds during her victory at the World Championships in Stuttgart the following year. She won titles at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games throughout this time period.

After retiring from athletics in 1997 because of an Achilles tendon injury Gunnell started a new career in television and public speaking. She presented sports news for the BBC while building a reputation as a motivational speaker who delivered talks about health and wellness and personal development.

Through her writing Gunnell has published four fitness and wellbeing books while supporting various charitable causes. Sally Gunnell lives with her husband Jon and their three sons in Steyning West Sussex England.
