About Gabby Douglas
When Gabby Douglas was 16-years-old she made history at the 2012 London Olympics Games when she became the first African-American female to win a gold medal duringwomen’s gymnastics all-around event. As a member of the famed “Fierce Five” she’d add to her individual gold by helping her teammates to a gold medal in the women’s gymnastics team event as well.
When she returned to the states she was crowned America’s golden princess. In 2012 the Associated Press named her Female Athlete of the Year and her success led her across the country, making appearances on talk shows, at athletic events and numerous award shows. Douglas’ historic performanceduring the London Olympics not only made her an American hero, but also ensured several endorsement deals with companies like Nintendo and Nike.
Since the Olympics, Douglas has also become a best-selling author. In 2012 she released her first autobiography, “Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith,” chronicling her journey from an eight year old Virginia State Champion to becoming a cultural icon. She followed that book up with, “Raising The Bar” in 2013, in which she shares quotes, photos, and some of her favorite things while promoting a healthy, strong and confident lifestyle.
