Ryan Clark Biography

Ryan Clark is most commonly recognized as a free safety in the National Football League. Clark was born and raised in Louisiana throughout the 1980’s and ultimately chose to attend Louisiana State University, where he led the LSU Tigers football team to success. He was ranked third on their roster for the majority of his collegiate career and had earned the title of LSU’s Special Teams Player of the Year in 1988. Post-graduation, Clark debuted professionally in 2002 for the New York Giants. Although originally an undrafted free agent, he played for the Giants for two seasons, amassing 23 tackles and five special teams stops. Clark then went on to play for the Washington Redskins for two seasons and the Pittsburgh Steelers for eight seasons. He shined tremendously with the Steelers, becoming a two-time AFC Champion, Super Bowl XLIII champion and recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, an annual award dedicated to the team player that displays the most sportsmanship, inspiration and courage. After recovering from a serious sickle cell disease in 2007, Clark honorably established the Ryan Clark’s Cure League in order to raise awareness about sickle cell trait with high hopes of finding a cure. He now has returned to the Washington Redskins, representing number 25 as a free safety since the commencement of the 2014 season, and is admired for his impressive total of 929 professional tackles to date.
