About Ron Darling
First becoming a starting pitcher as a sophomore at Yale University, Ron Darling set the NCAA record for longest recorded shutout by pitching 11 perfect innings against St. Johns University before they ended the shutout in the 12th to win the game. Darling was drafted by the Texas Rangers and after one season in the minor leagues he was traded to the New York Mets. Darling became a permanent fixture in the Mets rotation in 1984 and remained there until 1990. After a World Series title in 1986, Darling began to decline and was traded between the Expos and the Athletics organizations. Darling played until 1995 when he retired from the game with a career 3.87 ERA and 1,590 career strikeouts. Since his retirement, Darling began a career as a broadcaster calling baseball games. He currently calls games for TBS and in 2013 joined the MLB Network as an in-studio analyst.
