About Riley McCusker
Riley McCusker is a retired American gymnast who competed for the U.S. women’s national team and the University of Florida Gators. A native of Connecticut, she began gymnastics in 2008, training at MG Elite. Later, she switched to the Arizona Sunrays after citing verbal and emotional abuse, which led to some mental health challenges post-the 2021 Olympic Trials.
A 2018 World Championships team gold medalist, she also won the 2019 Pan American Games uneven bars title and all-around silver and was the 2017 U.S. national uneven bars champion. Her senior elite career included six medals at the U.S. National Championships, with notable finishes like third in the all-around (2017, 2018) and silver at the 2019 Birmingham World Cup. At Florida, she was a 2023 All-American on bars, contributed to two NCAA runner-up finishes from 2022 to 2023, and earned a perfect 10.0 on bars in 2025. A stress fracture in 2023 and later ankle surgery cut her career short.
She was a pre-med major in Gainesville, Florida and is continuing her education to become a surgeon. McCusker founded Riley’s Leap, a nonprofit aimed at optimizing athlete wellness.
