About Rick Stansbury
Rick Stansbury began his career in coaching mens basketball at his alma mater of Campbellsville in 1981. Rick spent the next 16 seasons as an assistant including a stent at the University of the Cumberlands where he was a part of leading the team to a 31-5 record and second round appearance in the NAIA Tournament. Ricks career took off in 1998 when he got the head coaching job at Mississippi State where he had a 293-164 record, and he led his teams to the post season tournament eleven times in fourteen seasons, including five consecutive seasons. Under Stansburys leadership Mississippi State won more SEC Championships in a ten year period than any other program except Kentucky with a total of 8. That kind of record earned Rick the 2004 SEC Coach of the Year Award, and he was a top 5 Finalist for the National Coach of the Year in 2004.
