About Ralph Sampson
Standing at 7-foot 4 inches tall, Ralph Sampson was an imposing force on the court. He began playing in high school where he was a standout star that led the team to back to back championships in 1978 and 1979. That success propelled him to becoming the most heavily recruited college and professional player of his time. In college he led the University of Virginia Cavaliers to an NIT title in 1980 as well as a Final Four and Elite Eight appearance. As the first overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft, Ralph went on to even greater success. His 7,039 points, 4,011 rebounds, and 1,038 assists earned him a spot on the All-Star team 4 times, where he was the games MVP in 1985 as well as being the Rookie of the Year in 1984. Following his playing days Ralph dabbled in coaching for a short period of time, and has since been inducted into both the College Basketball Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player.
