About Calvin Murphy
Calvin Murphy is a Norwalk, Connecticut native and played his college ball at Niagara University where he earned All-American honors in three consecutive seasons and finished his career with 2,548 points for an average of 33.1 points per game. In 1970 he led his team to an NCAA Tournament appearance before joining the Houston Rockets as a second round pick. During his rookie season in 1971 the 5’9, 165 point guard earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors and wowed spectators with his ability to put the ball in the hoop despite his small size. He’d go on to earn All-Star honors in 1979 and score 17,949 points to go along with 4,402 career assists over 13 seasons with the Rockets. After his retirement he continued to work for the Rockets franchise and eventually earned his own show on ESPN Radio in 2007 called the “The Calvin Murphy Show”.
