About Peter Laviolette
Peter Laviolette is one of the best NHL coaches of his era. Laviolette became just the fourth coach to lead three different teams to the Stanley Cup Final. He won the 2006 Cup in his second head coaching gig with the Carolina Hurricanes. Only three other American coaches had previously hoisted Lord Stanley.The Hurricanes went to the playoffs three times in his six plus seasons. Laviolette also piloted the Philadelphia Flyers to the championship round in 2010 and the Nashville Predators to their first Stanley Cup appearance in 2017.
The New York Islanders made two straight playoff appearances in his first opportunity to run a team. Laviolette was a minor league head coach before becoming a Boston Bruins assistant in 1999. He had an 11-year playing career, spent mostly in the minors. Laviolette did see action in 12 games for the New York Rangers. He was also a part of Team USA at the 1988 and 1994 Olympics and coached the squad in 2006. The Massachusetts native played collegiately at Westfield State College.
