About Al Groh
Al Groh is a retired longtime college and NFL coach. Groh was a head coach three times in his career, leading Wake Forest from 1981-86, taking over the New York Jets for one season in 2000, and landing with his alma mater Virginia from 2001-09. While with the Cavaliers, he was twice named the ACC Coach of the Year. Groh was a coaching lieutenant for Bill Parcells, got his first coaching job under the legend, and was on his staff for two Super Bowls with the Giants. His head coaching record at Virginia was 59-54 and overall he was 85-92 for his career. Groh went 9-7 in his one season with the Jets. His final coaching stint was a two-year period as the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. Groh has helped foster the careers of many other coaches, including his son Mike, who currently coaches wide receivers for the Chicago Bears.
