About Pedro Alvarez
Pedro Alvarez is an MLB third baseman, currently playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Alvarez was a recordsetting player in high school, but turned down an offer from the Boston Red Sox to play in college for theVanderbilt Commodores. A dominant force for the Commodores, Alvarez won the Freshman Player ofthe Year, along with slugging 39 homeruns in just two seasons with theteam. In the 2008 MLB Draft, thePittsburgh Pirates selected Alvarez with the second overall pick, making his MLB debut onJune 16, 2010.Alvarez would produce in limited at bats, hitting multiple homeruns and picking up RBIs in many atbats.Afterspendingmostof2011betweentheDLandtheminorleagues,AlvarezreturnedtothePiratesin2012,againdominatingopposingpitching, and emerging into one of the top homerun hitters inbaseball. His breakout year was in 2013, as hewas named to his first All-Star team, along with leadingthe National League in homeruns, earning him Silver Slugger honors. The future is bright for Alvarez, ashe and Andrew McCutchen look to lead the Pirates back to the World Series in the near future.
