About Andres Galarraga
At one time, Andres Galarraga was one of baseball’s most feared sluggers. Galarraga played for seven different franchises and hit 399 home runs in his career. He was a five time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove winner, and two time Silver Slugger honoree. Well known as The Big Cat, Galarraga also won a batting title in 1993 and led the National League in home runs in 1996. He was awarded the NL Comeback Player of the Year trophy with the Atlanta Braves in 2000 after his return from treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Previously in his career he had won the award due to his return from multiple knee injuries. Galarraga beat cancer for a second time to return to the big leagues for one final season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2004. When Galarraga came to the expansion Colorado Rockies in 1993, he would become the first star for the franchise. Galarraga was signed by the Montreal Expos out of Venezuela in 1979.
