About Paul Holmgren
Paul Holmgren has had a long, distinguished career in the NHL. Holmgren started as a player, spending eight seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and two with the Minnesota North Stars. In 1980, he became the first American player to record a hat trick in the Stanley Cup Final. The next season, Holmgren was selected to his first and only All-Star Game. After retiring, he became an assistant coach with the Flyers before being named head coach in 1988. In his first season, he led the franchise to the Conference Finals. Holmgren went on to become head coach and general manager of the Hartford Whalers. He has since served in several front office roles with the Flyers and is currently a Senior Advisor. In 2014, Holmgren received the highest honor of his career, the Lester Patrick Trophy from USA Hockey.
