About Otis Birdsong
Otis Birdsong had a brief, but stellar NBA career. In 12 seasons, Birdsong made 12 All-Star games. His had his best season in 1980-81, averaging a career-best 24.6 points and being named to the All-NBA second team. Birdsong retired in 1989 with 12,544 points. The Kansas City Kings selected him with the second overall pick of the 1977 NBA Draft. He spent his first four seasons with the Kings, seven years with the New Jersey Nets, and one final campaign with the Boston Celtics. Birdston was also a standout on the collegiate level at the University of Houston. He left the Cougars as the second leading scorer in program history and still ranks 12th all-time in Division 1 history. In 1977, he was a Consensus All-American and was Southwest Conference Player of the Year after averaging 30.3 points per game. Birdsong also led the conference in scoring as a junioar and was named the SWC Player of the Decade. His #10 is retired at Houston and he is also a member of the school's Hall of Honor. Birdsong is in the Polk County Hall of Fame in Florida and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame as well.
