Orlando Antigua

Orlando Antigua is the promising head men’s basketball coach at the University of South Florida. Antigua also holds a unique distinction in basketball history. He was the first Hispanic and first non-African American player in 52 years to suit up for the Harlem Globetrotters in 1995. Antigua spent seven years with the Globetrotters and was nicknamed “Hurricane”. He played collegiately at Pittsburgh, the same school he got his first coaching opportunity with. Antigua gained acclaim in basketball circles while on the staff of John Calipari at Memphis and Kentucky. In addition to coaching at USF, Antigua also coaches the Dominican national team. He overcame a tough upbringing in the Bronx that included getting shot in the head during a drive-by. Despite the obstacles, Antigua was always a role model serving as student council president at St. Raymond’s High School. He was also a McDonald’s All-American and All-New York City choice out of high school.
