About Omar Vizquel
Omar Vizquel is a former Major League Baseball shortstop who played for six teams during his playing career before becoming a coach. Vizquel’s playing career began in the Venezuelan Winter League with the Leones del Caracas. The Seattle Mariners signed Vizquel in 1984 as a non-drafted free agent and he made his Major League debut on April 3, 1989. The Mariners traded Vizquel to the Cleveland Indians at the end of the 1993 season. In 2005, the San Francisco Giants signed Vizquel as a free agent. He also played for the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. During his time as a player he won 11 Gold Gloves, with 9 of them being consecutive; he was also a 3x All-Star. Vizquel was hired by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on January 30, 2013 to become the co-infield coach. Later that year on November 18, the Detroit Tigers named Vizquel as their first base coach.
