About B.J. Surhoff
1999 National League All-Star B.J. Surhoff had an 18-year standout baseball career. Surhoff was well known for his versatility in the field, playing every position in the major leagues but pitcher. He compiled 2,326 hits and batted over .280 in 12 seasons. The two stints he had with the Baltimore Orioles earned him induction into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2007. The Milwaukee Brewers originally selected him first overall in the 1985 MLB Draft. Surhoff is a legend at the University of North Carolina, where he was a two-time first-team All-American and hit .392 for his Tar Heels career. In 1984, he was a member of the first U.S. Olympic baseball team and a year later was the ACC Male Athlete of the Year. He is currently a special assignment coach in the Orioles’ minor leagues. Surhoff also is the president of Pathfinders for Autism, an organization that acts as a support group for families that have autistic children.
