About Art Shamsky

Art Shamsky is a former Major League baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Oakland Athletics. He played from 1965-1972 and had a career average of .253 while playing the corner outfield spots and first base. Shamsky was a World Series champion with the “Miracle Mets” in 1969. Leading up to that Series, he led all batters with a .538 average in the NLCS. While with the Reds, he had the distinction of setting a major league record by with four consecutive home runs. Shamsky roomed with Pete Rose in the minor leagues. He is a member of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and New York Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Shamsky managed the Modi’in Miracle of the Israel Baseball League during the inaugural 2007 season. He has an ongoing presence in New York, where he has operated several restaurants and been a broadcaster. Shamsky authored a book titled. “The Magnificent Seasons” about the Mets, New York Jets, and New York Knicks winning their first championships in the same period of time.
