Brian Jordan Biography

Brian Jordan is a retired MLB outfielder and NFL safety who is one of the only successful dual sport athletes in history. A two sport star at the University of Richmond, Jordan was drafted in the first round of the 1988 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and the seventh round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. While playing in the Cardinals’ minor league system, Jordan spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, recording five interceptions and four sacks, earning one Pro Bowl honor in two seasons in the NFL. In 1992, Jordan signed a new contract with the Cardinals that required him to focus full time on baseball, and he did so, eventually making his MLB debut in 1992. His first full season was in 1995, and he recorded 145 hits with a .296 batting average, earning a spot as cleanup hitter for the Cardinals. In his one and only All-Star season in 1999, Jordan played for the Atlanta Braves, dominating the early parts of the season as well as the postseason, as he led the Braves to the World Series. Jordan retired as an athlete in 2006 as a member of the Atlanta Braves, and he currently works as an analyst on TV.
