Noelle Pikus-Pace Biography


Noelle Pikus-Pace is a skeleton racer whose career began in 2001. Pikus-Pace won the women’s Skeleton World Cup overall title in 2004-05. After she won the silver medal in the women’s skeleton event at the 2005 FIBT World Championships, she emerged as a favorite to medal at the upcoming Winter Olympics. On October 19, 2005, Pikus-Pace had her right leg broken by a four-man bobsleigh that failed to brake at the finish line during the Canada Olympic Park bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track. Pikus-Pace underwent surgery on her leg, and seven weeks later she would return to competing. On October 3, 2007, Pikus-Pace announced that she would take the 2007-08 Skeleton World Cup off to give birth to her baby. Pikus-Pace finished fifth at the 2008-09 Skeleton World Cup season opener on November 28, 2008. On January 17, 2010, it was announced that she had qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Pikus-Pace competed in the 2010 Games, and finished in fourth place. She decided to retire after the 2010 Olympics. Pikus-Pace announced her intention to come out of retirement in the summer of 2012 to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
