About Asafa Powell
Asafa Powell is a Jamaican sprinter and a former world record holder. Powell held the 100 meters world record from June 2005 to May 2008. He competed in the 100 meters for Jamaica in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics. Powell’s highest Olympic finish in the event was fifth in both 2004 and 2008. He won a gold medal in 2008 as a member of the 4x100 relay team for Jamaica. Powell is a four-time medalist at the World Championships. No man in history has run more sub-ten second 100 meter races than Powell. He was the Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2006. Early in his track career, Powell was sponsored by Nike, but since 2010 has been with Chinese apparel company, Li Ning. Both of his parents are pastors and as a result of his upbringing, Powell is very religious.
