About Nastia Liukin
While she has now retired from competition, Nastia Liukin is a former artistic gymnast. Her parents were coaches at a gym, and since they were reluctant to pay for a babysitter, Nastia began to train in gymnastics at the age of three because she was always in the gym. She quickly exhibited her aptitude for the sport and by the time she was 12 years old she competed in her first National Championship event. In her career she has competed in the Pacific Rim Championships, Pan American Games, US National Championships, and World Championships where she has racked up an impressive 3 bronze medals, 13 silver medals, and 22 gold medals. There was no doubt that Nastia had proven herself as one of the greatest gymnasts in the world, thusly earning herself a spot on the Olympic team in 2008 where she gained even more notoriety from her performance. She took home a bronze, three silver, and one gold medal in the games that year in various events.
