About Carl Lewis
In a day of specialized athletes it is hard to find well-rounded superstars that excel at several disciplines. From the early 1980’s to 1996 Carl Lewis was that superstar. After earning Gold Medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100 relay and long jump at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games he maintained a his dominance over the rest of the field for over a decade, earning five more Gold Medals and a Silver Medal in the next three Olympic Games.
Due to his success at the international and Olympic levels over the course of two decades he was voted “Sportsman of the Century” by both Sports Illustrated and the International Olympic Committee. During his career Lewis became the first track and field athlete to build a brand around his name and accomplishments, which paved the way for track and field athletes to become the professionals they are today.
After his retirement Lewis became a successful actor and motivational speaker, and in 2011 he ran for a senate seat in New Jersey as a Democrat. Currently he devotes his time to his philanthropic commitments and his marketing and branding company, C.L.E.G.
