Michael Johnson

There are not many men better known in track and field history than Michael Johnson.  Johnson is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time World Champion.  At the 1996 Olympics, he was the first and still only man to win both the 200 and 400 meters in the same Games.  When Johnson won the 400 meters again in 2000, he became the first man to ever defend his Olympic title in the 400.  At just over 33 years old, he was the oldest runner to ever win an Olympic race shorter than 5000 m.  His eight World Championship golds are tied for the most in history with Usain Bolt and Carl Lewis.  Johnson still holds the world record in the 300 m and his 200 m record stood for over 12 years.  Following the 1996 Olympics, his inspirational book, “Slaying The Dragon: How to Turn Your Small Steps Into Great Feats”, was published.  In 2004, Johnson was inducted into the U.S. Track and Field Hall of Fame.  Michael Johnson Performance was started in McKinney, Texas in 2007 to train athletes across the spectrum of sport.  He has also worked as a television analyst for the BBC.
