Mike Marshall

Mike Marshall pitched for 14 years in the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Seattle Pilots, Houston Astros, Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, and New York Mets. Marshall began his career in professional baseball after signing with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent in 1960. After seven years in the minor leagues he made his MLB debut with the Tigers in 1967, and went on to become one of the most dominant relief pitchers in the major leagues. Marshall put his name on the map in 1972 when he led the league with 65 appearances and posted a 1.78 ERA. He followed that up with 92 appearances in the 1973 season with 31 saves and a 2.66 ERA, earning him a runner-up finish in the Cy Young voting. However, it was 1974 that would prove to be his career year, posting an MLB record 106 appearances with a 2.42 ERA and 21 saves in route to earning an All-Star selection and winning the 1974 Cy Young Award while playing for the Dodgers. Marshall retired in 1981 with two All-Star nods and three Saves championships, and is widely considered to be one of the greatest relief pitchers of all-time.
