About Mike Green
Mike Green is one of the top defensemen in hockey and plays for the Detroit Red Wings. After playing junior hockey with the Saskatoon Blades, Green was selected in the first round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. He made his NHL debut with the Capitals in 2005. He became one of the top offensive players at his position, leading all defensemen with 18 goals and 56 points in 2007-08. That season, Green also helped Washington make the playoffs for the first time since 2003. Green set a record for defensemen in 2009 by scoring a goal in eight straight games. He became just the eighth defensemen in league history to score over 30 goals in a season and finished the year as a finalist for the James Norris Memorial Trophy. The following season, Green notched over 70 points and was named an NHL First All-Star Team for the second year in a row. He has also been named to the All-Star Team in 2011 and 2018. Green played for Washington until signing with the Red Wings as a free agent in 2015. He has competed at times in international play for Canada and scored 12 points as part of their silver medal-winningsquad at the 2008 World Championships.
