About Al MacInnis
Al MacInnis had a 23 year Hall of Fame career split between the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues. MacInnis was one of the best scoring defencemen of all-time and finished his career third in goals, assists, and points among defencemen. MacInnis will always be remembered for his hard shot, which is what caught the Flames eye when they drafted him 15th overall in 1981. He led Calgary to their first-ever Stanley Cup and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the series MVP in 1989. Prior to that magical run, no defenceman had ever led the league in scoring during the postseason. It was with the Blues in 1998-99 when MacInnis finally won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenceman. The 12 -time All-Star has his jersey honored by both the Flames and Blues. A statue of MacInnis also stands outside the St. Louis’ Scottrade Center. Twice he competed for Canada in the Olympics, including 2002 when they won their first gold medal in 50 years. He still holds a prominent position with the Blues as their Vice President of Hockey Operations.
