About Matt Wieters
Matt Wieters is the starting catcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Wieters is one of the most accomplished backstops in baseball today. He has been named to four American League All-Star teams. In 2011 and 2012, Wieters was also recognized for his defensive prowess by winning the AL Gold Glove. He was long thought of as one of the best prospects in baseball and made his big league debut in 2009. Prior to arriving with the Orioles, Baseball America named Wieters their 2008 Minor League Player of the Year. Baltimore originally selected him out of Georgia Tech with the fifth overall pick of the 2007 MLB Draft. With the Yellow Jackets, Wieters was a two-time first-team All-American and first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.
