About Marta Vieira da Silva
Marta Vieira da Silva is often considered the most decorated player in women’s soccer. Compared alongside Mia Hamm as one of the best players the sport has ever seen, da Silva grew up in Dois Riachos, Brazil and pushed through all doubts she received about girls playing soccer. Stubbornly persisting to her brothers that she would play, da Silva debuted for the 2003 World Cup at a mere seventeen years old and immediately after, became the first Brazilian woman to play professional soccer in Europe when she signed for a Swedish club team. Da Silva has since been named the FIFA World Player of the Year five consecutive times and has won two silver medals at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics as a member of the Brazilian national team. In addition, Marta was a recipient of the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards as the best player and top scorer, respectively, and was named as one of the six Ambassadors of the 2914 FIFA World Cup. Marta Vieira da Silva is only beginning to show the world all that she is capable of doing and all that she will continue to do.
