Mark Pope Biography

Mark Pope has his dream job in college basketball as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. Born and raised in Kentucky, Pope fostered an early passion for the game. He started his college days playing at the University of Washington and winning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors before returning home and helping lead UK to the 1996 National Championship. 

Pope then embarked on a nearly decade-long pro playing career internationally and in the NBA. He subsequently climbed the coaching ladder, serving as an assistant coach at Georgia, Wake Forest, and BYU. 

In 2015, Pope got his first head coaching shot and Utah Valley. He recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons his last two years and moved on to BYU, where he led the Cougars to 20 wins four times and two NCAA Tournament appearances in five years.
