About Mariano Rivera
There is no better closer in baseball history than Mariano Rivera. Rivera, one of the all-time great New York Yankees, saved a record 652 games. He played his entire career in New York, made 13 All-Star Games, and won five World Series titles. Rivera’s 0.70 ERA and 42 saves are playoff records. During his epic run of postseason dominance, he was awarded the 1999 World Series MVP and 2003 ALCS MVP. For a Yankees fan during Rivera’s 17-year stint as the closer, there was nothing more assuring than hearing his iconic entrance song, “Enter Sandman”. His number was immediately retired by the franchise upon his retirement. Rivera was long regarded in baseball for his professionalism and class. The Mariano Rivera Foundation does work in the U.S. and Panama with faith-based groups. In 2014, Rivera received the ROBIE Award from the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Jefferson Award for Public Service.
