About Lukas Verzbicas
Lukas Verzbicas is a Lithuanian-American track and field athlete. Verzbicas competes mostly in the triathlon, but holds several impressive high school mile records. His two mile time of 8:29.46 is a U.S. high school record. Verzbicas was just the fifth American high schooler to run a sub four-minute mile. At the New Balance Indoor National meet, he was the first in event history to win the 5000 meters, one mile, and two mile. In 2011, he won gold as a junior at the ITU Triathlon World Championships. Verzbicas suffered a serious bicycle accident in 2012 that left him with temporary post-op paralysis in his right leg. Doctors thought he would never walk again, however he is back to training and chasing his Olympic dream in triathlon. Verzbicas moved to Orland Park, Illinois with his family from Kaunas, Lithuania at the age of nine.
