About Galen Rupp
Galen Rupp is long-distance runner. Rupp was originally a soccer player until he caught the attention of Alberto Salazar who coached him to great success while in high school. In 2002 and 2003, Rupp won two Oregon titles in cross-country and he won three individual track and field championships. Rupp attended the University of Oregon where he broke Rudy Chapa’s U.S. junior record for 10,000m. Rupp was the winner of the inaugural Bowerman Award in 2009. Rupp turned professional in 2009 and he earned himself a place on the American team for the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. During the World Championships, Rupp placed eighth and he was one of two non-Africans in the top 12. Rupp also qualified for the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships where he placed fifth and set a personal best of 7:42:40 for the 3000m. Rupp competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics where he took home the silver medal in the 10,000m.
