About Lionel Hollins
Lionel Hollins played his college basketball at Dixie Junior College from 1971 to 1973 and Arizona State University from 1973 to 1975. In 1975 he was selected in the first round with the 6th overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers and went on to play ten seasons in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers, Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets. While playing for the Trail Blazers he helped his team to an NBA Championship in 1977, and earned an All-Star selection in 1978 to go along with All-NBA Defensive Team honors in 1978 and 1979. The Trail Blazers retired his legendary No. 14 jersey in honor of his contributions to their franchise. After his retirement as a player in 1985 he was hired on as an assistant at Arizona State from 1985 to 1988 and then headed back to the NBA as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns. Over the next 13 seasons he served as an assistant with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Las Vegas Silver Bandits, Saint Louis Skyhawk’s, Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks before being named the head coach of the Grizzlies in 2008. From 2008 to 2013 he led the Grizzlies to three Playoff appearances before signing on as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in 2014.
