About Lily Yohannes
Lily Yohannes is a professional American soccer player for the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) and the AFC Ajax of the Vrouwen Eredivisie, the premier women's league in the Netherlands. At 16, she signed a three-year contract with Ajax and became the youngest player to start a UEFA Women's Championship League group stage match. An American-born citizen from Springfield, Va., Yohannes moved to the Netherlands at 10.
When her eligibility for the World Cup was in question, she leaned on her strong American ties and decided to commit to and join the USWNT. Her debut on the international stage for the USWNT occurred on June 4, 2024, against South Korea. Yohannes scored after ten minutes of play, becoming the third-youngest goal scorer in USWMNT history.
Yohannes was born into a soccer-centric family. Her maternal grandfather played for Eritrea's national teams, and her siblings played competitively in the Netherlands. At just 17, she is considered one of the most promising young talents in soccer.
