Kristine Lilly Biography

Kristine Lilly was a member of the US Women’s National Soccer Team for 24 years and with 352 caps is the most capped soccer player in the history of the sport. During her time with the US National Team she scored 130 goals which ranks third all-time. She began her career in big time soccer at the University of North Carolina in 1989 and led the Tar Heels to an NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship every year from 1989 to 1992. In 1981 she won the Hermann Trophy as the national player of the year. For her contributions to the sport and to the institution the University of North Carolina retired her No. 15 jersey in 1994. After her time at UNC she turned pro and played for multiple teams in the United States and abroad when not playing for the national team. Her international appearances include participating in every FIFA Women’s World Cup from 1991 to 2007 in which she was a part of two World Cup championship teams in 1991 and 1999. In 1996 and 2004 she helped the stars and stripes to a gold medal in the Olympics and added a silver medal in 2000. Lilly retired in 2010 as one of the most iconic soccer figures in the history of the sport.
