About Leah Hextall
Leah Hextall serves as a Canadian sports broadcaster who delivers play-by-play announcements for hockey games while establishing herself as a trailblazer in hockey media. She started her career at CTV Winnipeg in 2005 before moving to NESN and Sportsnet. Hextall achieved a historic milestone in 2020 when she became the first woman to broadcast play-by-play on a nationally televised NHL game in Canada. She achieved a historic milestone in 2021 by becoming the first woman to lead national NHL play-by-play duties at ESPN.
She provides play-by-play commentary for NCAA men's and women's hockey championships while maintaining a regular role in ESPN's NHL broadcasting schedule. Leah Hextall established her own path in the male-dominated sports industry despite being part of a hockey family that includes her cousin Ron Hextall and grandfather Bryan Hextall Sr. She maintains a professional demeanor while showing determination and uses her platform to fight online harassment and promote sports equity and inclusion.
She hosts the radio show "Hextall on Hockey" on CJOB Winnipeg and works as a brand ambassador for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League to promote young hockey talent through her platform.
