Kenneth Rooks

Kenneth Rooks gained international recognition through his silver Olympic medal at the 2024 Paris Games after running a personal best time of 8:06.41 in the steeplechase event. Born in Walla Walla on October 21, 1999 Kenneth Rooks grew up in College Place Washington where he became a successful high school athlete by winning state championships in cross-country and the 1,600 meters events.

Rooks started his college running career at Brigham Young University (BYU) while studying civil engineering to become a top performer in the steeplechase events. During the 2023 season Rooks established both the BYU and NCAA records with an 8:17.62 time and then won the NCAA steeplechase championship by setting a new stadium record at 8:26.17. The U.S. steeplechase championship victory came after Rooks recovered from an early race fall which showcased his ability to bounce back.

Rooks started his professional running career in January 2024 when he joined Nike and the Run Elite training group based in Provo Utah. The U.S. Olympic Trials steeplechase final victory by Rooks secured his Paris Olympic spot as he finished with a time of 8:21.9.

Rooks devotes his life to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while he served a two-year mission in Uganda and Utah between 2019 and 2021. Rooks maintains his focus through prayer and scripture reading as he balances his athletic training with faith and mental preparation during high-pressure situations.

Rooks lives with his wife Taylor in Provo Utah where he trains for upcoming world championships and the 2028 Olympics. Through his journey from high school athlete to Olympic medalist Rooks demonstrated his unbreakable spirit while following his faith and striving for greatness.
