About Ken Griffey Sr.
Before his famous son blazed a Hall of Fame path through baseball, Ken Griffey Sr. was a great player in his own right. Griffey was a three-time All-Star and two-time champion with the “Big Red Machine” Cincinnati Reds’ teams of the 1970s. In 1976, he finished second in the batting title race by hitting .336 and the Reds won their second consecutive World Series. The Reds inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2004. Griffey also played for the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves before ending his career with a second stint and Cincinnati and a final salvo with his son’s Mariners team. When he went to Seattle in 1990, The Griffeys made history as the first father-son duo to play together. From 2010-2013, Griffey Sr. served as a coach in the Reds system.
