About Keith Dambrot
Keith Dambrot is the head coach at Duquesne and has had a long, successful tenure in college basketball. Dambrot is perhaps even better known for what he did on the prep level, coaching LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School for two years.
The publicity from coaching James led to Dambrot getting back into the college game as an assistant at his alma mater, Akron, in 2001. He subsequently took over the Zips program in 2004, leading them to a 305-139 record over 13 seasons.
Dambrot's Akron teams won four Mid-American Conference regular season championships and made it to the NCAA Tournament three times. He was a three-time MAC Coach of the Year.
In 2017, Dambrot was hired to be the head coach at Duquesne. He built the program up, culminating in a 25-11 season and Atlantic 10 Tournament title in 2024.
Before coaching LeBron, Dambrot had had some success on the collegiate level. Ironically he was a college baseball player at Akron, but worked his way through the basketball coaching ranks after college.
Dambrot got his first head coaching opportunities at the Division II schools Tiffin and Ashland. He also coached at Central Michigan.
