About John Hynes
John Hynes is the current head coach of the Minnesota Wild. A native of Warwick, Rhode Island, he played college hockey at Boston University before transitioning into coaching. Hynes began his coaching career with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and later served as head coach of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He became the youngest head coach in the NHL when he took over the New Jersey Devils in 2015. He later coached the Nashville Predators (2020–2023) before joining the Minnesota Wild in November 2023. Known for his structured systems, player development focus, and competitive edge, Hynes has guided multiple teams to the playoffs and has extensive international experience, including as an assistant coach for Team USA’s 2026 Olympic gold medal-winning team. He is a Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Famer and respected for his leadership and work ethic in the game of hockey.
