Jeff Walz

Jeff Walz grew up in Fort Thomas, Kentucky and played his college basketball at Northern Kentucky University after a stellar prep career at Highlands High School. Upon earning his bachelors in secondary education in 1995 he pursued a successful career in coaching. After earning his masters degree he signed on as an assistant at Western Kentucky and then landed a spot on the University of Nebraska coaching staff as an assistant in 1997. After four seasons with the lady Corn Huskers he headed to the University of Minnesota as an assistant in 2001. In 2002 the University of Maryland hired him as an assistant. He remained with the lady Terrapins for six years before landing his first head-coaching gig at the University of Louisville in 2007. In his first season he led the lady Cardinals to 26 wins and an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance. The following year his team won 34 games and finished as the national runner-up. They matched that performance in 2013 with 23-9 season and another NCAA National Runner-Up finish. In 2013-14 his team won 33 games and made an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. Through his first seven seasons he has won 196 games and led his teams to six NCAA Tournament appearances.
