About Jake Diebler
The Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team has Jake Diebler as its head coach since March 17, 2024. He leads the Buckeyes as their 15th head coach and the first Ohio native to guide the team since 1989.
Diebler started his coaching career at Valparaiso University after playing for the institution from 2005 through 2009. The senior year of his college career he placed among the Horizon League leaders in minutes played and three-pointers made and steals. He earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Valparaiso University in 2009 followed by his MBA in 2011. The assistant coach and director of operations positions at Valparaiso University led him to join Vanderbilt University as an assistant coach from 2016 until 2019. After joining Ohio State as an assistant coach in 2019 Diebler became the associate head coach in 2021 before taking over as interim head coach in February 2024.
The Buckeyes under Diebler's direction achieved a 17–15 record during the 2024–25 season but failed to secure NCAA Tournament qualification. The coaching of Bruce Thornton and John Mobley Jr. resulted in Bruce earning second-team All-Big Ten recognition and John becoming the Big Ten's second-leading three-point scorer with 77 made shots.
Upper Sandusky Ohio serves as the hometown of Jake Diebler who originates from a basketball-loving family. His father Keith spent 40 years coaching high school basketball in Ohio while his brother Jon became Ohio State's all-time leader in three-pointers made. Jake Diebler and his wife Jordyn Ellwood Diebler have two daughters and a son.
