About Jake Arrieta
Jake Arrieta had a productive big league career, but is best known for helping turn around the Chicago Cubs. Arrieta's breakout came with the Cubs in 2015, winning the National League Cy Young Award. He finished the year strong, throwing a no-hitter and picking up NL Pitcher of the Month for August with a 6−0 and a 0.43 ERA. The following season, Arrieta made his only All-Star team, threw another no-hitter, and was part of the Chicago squad that broke a 108-year drought and won the World Series.
Arrieta first made waves as the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year at TCU. Then the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He pitched for Team USA in the Olympics a year later, winning a bronze medal. Arrieta made his major league debut in Baltimore in 2010 and was traded to the Cubs in 2013. He finished his career with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2018-2020 and split the 2021 season between Chicago and the San Diego Padres.
