About Hubert Ausbie
Hubert Ausbie is a retired NBA basketball player who spent his career as a Harlem Globetrotter. A phenomenal athlete, Ausbie was a baseball and basketball player at Philander Smith College, earning All-Conference and All-American honors, and becoming one of the leading scorers in the Division II of the NCAA. Following his graduation, Ausbie had offers from the MLB and the NBA, but he ultimately chose to play for the Harlem Globetrotters after his wife had sent numerous letters to the team’s owner. Ausbie would go on to play for the Globetrotters for 24 years, making him a fan favorite and one of the longest tenured Globetrotters in team history. His accolades earned him a Globetrotters Legends Ring, which is one of the highest honors within the organization. Ausbie’s play earned him the nickname of the “Clown Prince of Basketball,” and he retired in 1985. Ten years later, Ausbie returned to the team as their head coach and manager of operations, making him a true Globetrotter’s legend.
