Gary Thorne

Gary Thorne is a sportscaster and serves as the lead play-by-play announcer for MASN. Thorne attended the University of Maine, University of Maine School of Law and Georgetown Law School. Upon graduating as a lawyer, he became a district attorney, but found the courtroom boring compared to broadcasting. In 1984, Thorne became a co-owner of baseball’s Triple-A Maine Guides. The following year, Thorne became a four-year stint as a radio announcer for the MLB team the New York Mets. He announced game six of the 1986 World Series between the Mets and Boston Red Sox. In 1989, Thorne became the backup play-by-play announcer for ABC’s coverage of Thursday Night Baseball telecasts. He was also a field reporter for the World Series and covered the World Series Trophy presentation. Thorne was named the lead play-by-play announcer on ESPN Radio’s Sunday Night Baseball coverage in 2008. Thorne is also the play-by-play announcer of many baseball video games.
