About Gary Blair
Gary Blair is the head coach of the women’s basketball team at Texas A&M. Blair played baseball in high school where he received all-city honors in 1963. In 1969, after failing out of Texas Tech University, Blair received a U.S. Army draft notice and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After graduating from Texas Tech, Blair hoped to find a baseball-coaching job, but he was offered a physical education coaching job at South Oak Cliff High School. Blair spent seven seasons at South Oak Cliff, where he went from a P.E. coach to South Oak Cliff’s first women’s basketball coach. Blair was offered an assistant coaching position at Louisiana Tech in October 1980. Blair has also coached for Stephen F. Austin University and the University of Arkansas before becoming the head coach at Texas A&M. In his first year at Texas A&M, the Aggies have not had a winning season in seven years. Blair has helped the Aggies to the postseason and he has increased the fans population by 71%.
