About Fred Funk
Fred Funk is a professional golfer who currently competes on the Champions Tour but has formerly competed on the PGA Tour. Funk’s rise to golf stardom was much different than many other professionals, as he was initially cut from the University of Maryland golf team before transferring to George’s Community College, returning to Maryland two years later. Following his graduation from Maryland, Funk turned professional in 1981, but he worked as a golf coach at Maryland for the next several years. In 1989, Funk joined the PGA Tour, earning his first victory in 1992 at the Shell Houston Open. Over the course of his career, Funk has won a total of 29 professional events, including eight on the PGA Tour. Funk then joined the Champions League in 2006, and would experience his best professional success in that tour, winning nine events. Funk currently is still competing on the Champions Tour, and is still winning and earning money.
