About Donna Orender
Donna Orender was an All-American basketball player at Queens College in New York and graduated in 1978 with a degree in psychology. She’d go on to earn her graduate degree in social work from Adelphi University and play three seasons in the Women’s Pro Basketball League, where she earned all-star honors while playing for the New York Stars, New Jersey Gems and Chicago Hustle. After her career she signed on as a production assistant at ABC Sports and went on to continue in that role at the Sports Channel. Orender served 17 years with the PGA Tour and eventually became the Senior Vice President of Strategic Development in the office of the commissioner in 2001. In 2005 she was named the president of the WNBA, and set about revolutionizing the league with a strong focus in branding, partnership establishments and marketing over the next five years. In 2005 Orender was named the seventh most powerful woman in sports and earned that reputation through her own hard work.
