About Dewey Bozella
Dewey Bozella is a former professional boxer who has a tragic, but inspiring story. He had a rough upbringing and watched his father beat his mother to death. He also outlived three brothers who each died of horrific circumstances. Bozella was wrongly convicted of murder in 1983 and ended up spending 26 years in prison. His conviction was overturned in 2009. During his time in prison, he became the light heavyweight champion at Sing Sing Correctional Facility. When Bozella was released, he started working with young people at a gym, teaching boxing and speaking out against the dangers of joining gangs. He won the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2011 ESPYs. Later that year, Bozella made his professional boxing debut at the age of 52. In 2016, he published his memoir, "Stand Tall: Fighting For My Life, Inside and Outside the Ring."
